The Mystery of Creation: Chapter 4: The Duality of Eternity: Created Because of Love or Because of Hate?
Created Because of Love or Because of Hate?
Still, this doesn’t exactly
explain why He wanted to create all things.
After all, there are several possibilities as to why He wanted to create
all things. Just because someone wants
to create something it doesn’t mean that they created the thing because they
wanted to love it and care for it. Some
people create things because they want to destroy them and smash them to
pieces…for fun.
So He could have desired to
create all things because He is a sadist and He wants to create things to
torture and kill things. He could take
great delight in watching people and things suffer. He could, however, also be at the other end
of the spectrum. He could be a God who
is peace loving and gentle and kind and He loves us and wants all of His
creation to live in happiness and in unity and at peace. Finally, God could be something in
between. He could be a God who loves
both death and carnage and a God who loves joy and peace and prosperity. He could enjoy both aspects of life and not be
extreme.
The evidence that we have
presented so far may immediately cause individuals to jump to the conclusion,
then, that God is actually the neutral God who loves all spectrums of
life. In other words, many may conclude
that He likes violence and death and blood and guts and He also likes peace and
harmony and happiness and joy. After
all, life is full of all of these things.
If He hated any of these things, why do they exist? Is He not the God of all things? That would mean that He is the God of both
love and hate, peace and war, life and death, misery and pleasure…correct?
However, let us review all of
the facts before making our final conclusion as to what God’s motive was and is
for creating all things. Let’s think
through this completely. After all, how
often in life do you have to go through horrible things in order to acquire
something you want? A football player,
for example, doesn’t become a pro without enduring intense training day after
day. It is hard work and it doesn’t
always feel good, and he often has to endure injuries. However, in the end, he accomplishes the goal
he set for himself because he endured the hardships.
Therefore, there is still the
possibility that God is a sadist or a pacifist and in order to accomplish His end
goal He simply has to endure what He hates in order to get what He truly wants. Just because the world is a mixture of both
pleasure and pain doesn’t mean that God loves both pleasure and pain. He might want pleasure, but in order to have
the thing He desires He must first endure the thing He hates; pain. Likewise He might want pain, but in order to
enjoy pain to the fullest He must endure watching a bunch of sappy people enjoy
their lives. In this darker scenario,
God would be on the side of those warmongers, enjoying watching the suffering
of the weak, only creating the weak for the purpose of watching them get
crushed.
So how can we know which God
desires? How can we know whether He
hates us and wants to hurt us and destroy us or whether He loves us and wants
to protect us and care for us?...or something in between? Hmmm…seems our mystery is a bit more
challenging to solve than it might first seem.
Is God a sadist or a pacifist…or something in between? Let’s delve a bit deeper and see if we can’t
figure out which makes the most sense.
