The Mystery of Creation: Chapter 4: The Duality of Eternity: Patterns
Patterns
So a motive behind creating all
things is that God is always changing something about Himself. He is a creating machine that is always
adapting and always building and always changing and always destroying and
rebuilding and so on and so forth throughout all time and space. He just doesn’t stop. Therefore, creating is in His very
nature. It is like He cannot stop making
things.
But again, this does not mean
that He HAS to create something new and different. He could just work like an endless circle all
the time. This would be like a number
ring instead of a number line. A number
ring would be counting 0 to 9 and then starting over at 0 again. You just continue to count 0 to 9 over and
over again without ever adding a 1 or a negative sign or anything. Over and over, the same thing repeats
itself. It never varies or changes. It is just an eternal monotony. The same exact thing that is happening right
now will happen again and again throughout all eternity. No variations…no changes…always the
same…forever.
A circle theory of existence
really doesn’t line up with the evidence that we find throughout the
universe. Like the number line, life has
patterns. Things do repeat
themselves. However, even the theory of
evolution will tell you that although things repeat themselves they often
change as well so that new things are made.
So we might have the same
conflicts today that people were having thirty or forty years ago, but the
circumstances surrounding the conflicts have changed. People are afraid of nuclear attacks from
North Korea, for example, while back in the 60s, 70s and 80s people were
petrified of a Russian nuclear attack. Racism
is resurging again, as it did in America’s history. However, it is not quite the same as it was
then. There are different events
occurring and brand new evils being done.
So history is kinda repeating
itself as we are dealing with the potential that someone could hit a nuclear
missile button and nuke an entire country, and people are actually afraid of it
again, but it is no longer the Russians people fear. It is now the North Koreans. Likewise, there are many similarities between
Abraham Lincoln and JFK. However, they
were two totally different men and the circumstances surrounding their lives
were different. Still, people will say
that it is almost like reincarnation.
But let me say right now that
reincarnation is NOT Biblical, and it certainly doesn’t make sense. I don’t have time to get into it here, but
suffice to say, reincarnation is not logical in the grand scheme of
things. The reason reincarnation makes
sense to people is because they notice the patterns of history and life and
they say that it is because people and things are reborn again and again,
recreating similar events over and over again.
However, the reason for these patterns in history is that all things
exist because patterns exist. Just as
121, 122, 123, etc. is like 1, 2, 3, and yet they are not completely identical,
so it is with history when events repeat themselves. It is merely the pattern of history being
recreated once more.
This same thing is even seen in
the Bible too. Moses and the Israelites
are a shadow of the things that would happen in Jesus’ life. Pharaoh ordered the deaths of all of the
Hebrew babies. King Herod ordered the
deaths of all of the children of Bethlehem that were 2 years and younger. Moses and the Israelites were forced through
the Red Sea before they could start the mission God had for them, which was to
take over the land of Canaan. Jesus had
to be baptized by John the Baptist before He could start His mission to go and
die on a cross for the sins of humanity.
So our universe repeats itself
just as the number line repeats itself.
There are patterns that we see that occur over and over again. However, small variables pop up with each
repeat of the pattern. Whereas before it
happened to an old man with a stingy wife, this time it is happening to a young
woman with a stingy husband. The same
basic story is happening, but the difference is in the details. This still makes it something new and
different, but it also makes it relatively the same. Thus, it is not a circle but more like a
series of loops.
Another clue that tells us that
God works in patterns instead of circles is found in human nature. We humans get bored if we are forced to do
the same things over and over again, day after day, without variation. That is why the saying exists, “Variety is
the spice of life.” We like things to
change, but we really don’t like them to change TOO much. If things get a little TOO different, we
start to gripe and complain. “Why is
this happening? Why did God allow this
to happen to me? This is unfair!” We want adventure and excitement, but when it
comes we hate it. It is because we are
creatures made to like patterns, but we don’t like things to be forever
stagnant and never changing. Thus, it
only makes sense that the God who created us would also feel this way.
I don’t know about you, but the
thought of doing the same things over and over again throughout all eternity
does not appeal to me in the slightest.
I want to experience new adventures and new exciting things forever. Oh sure, it’s nice to have daily routines and
habits and such to come home to, but it is also nice to have vacations and
adventures; to do things that are not normal now and then.
