The Mystery of Creation: Chapter 3: Understanding the Trinity: Emotions
Emotions
Emotions, therefore, would be a part
of our spirits as well. Let’s think
about this. Are emotions visible or
invisible? Do we experience them because
one of our physical senses detect them or do we experience them because of
circumstances and situations that occur in our lives? We experience emotions that are invisible
because of circumstances and situations in our lives. This sounds very much like an other-centered part
of us, and the other-centered part of us is the spirit.
Just as we feel pleasure or pain
through our five physical senses so a spirit feels pleasure or pain through the
input it receives from outside sources.
When someone upsets you then you feel negative emotions, or painful
emotions. When someone does something
nice for you then you feel positive, or pleasing emotions. Yes, emotions can trigger chemical responses
in the body, and vice versa, but just as invisible forces affect visible magnets
and vice versa, so the body and the spirit affect one another.
Depression, therefore, can come
about because the body is tired and it is secreting chemicals into your body
that are causing you to feel depression.
However, depression is a spiritual pain and not a physical one. This is why it zaps your body of energy. Likewise, depression can come about because
of the actions of a person. Someone has deeply
hurt you, and so you feel alone and depressed.
This, then, causes chemicals to be released in your body which then
deteriorate your body over time (if the depression continues for a long period
of time).
Even non-emotional forces can
have an effect on human emotions. Ever
hear of the expression, “Must be a full moon out tonight?” According to an article in Reader’s Digest, “Everyone
has both light and dark inside them. Positive
or negative, the full moon takes your strongest qualities and enhances them. According to Dr. Perrakis, the full moon has a
way of bringing both sides out into the open.’
In the literal sense, what the full moon does is expand and it magnifies
everything."’ (https://www.rd.com/culture/full-moon-astrology/)
What am I trying to say
here? Why would the moon have an effect
on people? There is a force at work that
is invisible to the human eye that is messing with your emotions during a full
moon. The physical object of the moon
does not collide physically with a person.
However, some “force” or “spirit” from the moon comes upon a person and
affects them. Does it affect a person’s
physical body? Yes. Does it affect their emotions? Yes.
However, it is the invisible force of the moon that affects the
invisible spirit within a human which in turn affects the physical body of a
person.
What I’m saying is that the body
can cause emotions to be triggered because the spirit is connected to the body
as well. So if the body is injured it
can trigger an emotional response. The
spirit receives a signal from the body that lets the spirit know that the body
has had pain inflicted upon it, and the spirit responds with emotional
pain.
This is just like the control
unit on the computer. It sends messages
to the ALU and receives messages from the ALU.
It transmits orders from the ALU to the rest of the computer and
receives messages from the rest of the computer and transmits them to the ALU.
This is because the spirit is
the other-centered part of a person. It
is always searching and trying to gather information about everything. It is always concerned about everything else
including the body. In reference to the
spirit searching and knowing all things, the Bible says in Psalm 77:6, “And my
spirit makes diligent search.” It also
says in Romans 8:27, “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the
Spirit is.” 1 Corinthians 2:10 says,
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit, for the Spirit searches
all things, yes, the deep things of God.”
Genesis
41:8 says, “that his spirit was troubled,” indicating that it was the spirit
that was upset. Exodus 6:9 says, “they
did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit.” Numbers 5:14 refers to “the spirit of
jealousy.” In Judges 9:23, “God sent a
spirit of ill will between Abimelech and the men of Shechem.” In 1 Samuel 16:15 it says, “Surely, a
distressing spirit from God is troubling you,” referring to the person being
stressed out and anxious. In Galatians
5:22 it states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness…” All
of these are other-centered and/or fill a person with emotions. Psalm 34:18 refers to having, “a contrite
spirit” or a humble spirit.
