The Mystery of Creation: Chapter 2: Who or What Created the Universe?: Something is Eternal vs. Nothing is Eternal
Chapter 2: Who or What Created the Universe?: Something is Eternal vs. Nothing is Eternal
So now we are going to get into
the true intent of this book. We are
going to determine who or what created the universe, how they/it created it and
why. We are going to, from this point
forward, take a detective’s approach to resolving this question.
The first thing we must do is
determine, using logical deduction, “Who or what created the universe as it is
today?” In other words, what sparked the
events that have led the universe to our existence? Was it God?
Was it multiple Gods? Was it a
Big Bang?
So how can we determine this
logically? We must use the process of
elimination. Since we were not present
at the time of the creation of the universe, we cannot say for certain how it
was created unless we are able to eliminate all possibilities except one
utilizing the facts that we have at our disposal. This is what any investigator does when they
are attempting to solve a mystery.
In order to eliminate all
possibilities we must go as far back as we can possibly go. What do we know? We know that either something is eternal or
nothing is eternal. In other words,
either the concept of eternity is a farce and nothing, ever, can be eternal or
something actually is eternal.
What does the word eternal
mean? It means “never-ending.” It means that there literally is no beginning
or end to something. Now if nothing is
eternal that means that every single thing in the universe has a beginning and
an end. However, if even one thing is
eternal then we know that the answer, “Nothing is eternal” is false. After all, something is eternal and nothing
is eternal are opposites. To say that
both are true is like saying that you have a ball in your right hand but you
don’t have a ball in your right hand.
Either you have a ball in your right hand or you don’t have a ball in
your right hand. Both cannot be true.
Well, something cannot be
created from nothing. You cannot have an
endless void of nothingness and then suddenly have something appear in it. Something begets something. Nothing begets nothing. You don’t just go from nothing, not a single
thing exists in all of the universe anywhere to suddenly something
appears. That is illogical. It is feasible to think that you could go
from something to nothing, for all limited somethings can be destroyed. However, if you go back in time as far back
as it takes to get to the very beginning of all things, if there was nothing
before all things then why and how could something spring up out of
nothing? It is impossible. It makes no sense.
Besides this, the very
definition of eternal means that there is no beginning or end, so if it has no
beginning and no end then we cannot go back in time far enough to reach the
beginning of this eternal something or somethings and that also means that there
is no end to the eternal something or somethings.
So if nothing was eternal in
space and time that would mean that nothing has no beginning or end throughout all
space and time. If nothing has no
beginning or end throughout space and time then nothing would ever change and
something would never appear. Therefore,
since we are things, and we exist, we can only conclude that something or some
things must be eternal throughout all space and time.
